Genesis Green Roof Project Launches Fundraising Campaign to Raise $250,000 for Expansion

Joe Lohmuller, MD, general surgeon at Genesis Health Center, 1227 East Rusholme Street, Davenport, is retiring at the end of June, but he leaves behind a legacy beyond his patients. He and his wife, Ann, have been primary champions of the Genesis East Green Roof project since its inception in 2002.

The project was a huge success, but with the expansion of Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, now is the time to expand. The plan is to extend the green roof to spaces currently clad in the same lifeless, plain gray roofing material that began the Transformational First View renovation.

As part of Dr. Lohmuller’s farewell to Genesis, he is partnering with the Genesis Health Services Foundation to help raise $125,000 of the $250,000 needed to expand the green plant-filled roof to additional roof sections.

Three floors of patient rooms will overlook the green roof with plantations and colored ballast. Low-maintenance green roofs will provide an attractive and therapeutic view year-round with minimal maintenance and operating expenses.

The original green roof was developed and constructed in 2010. Funding came from the generosity of Genesis benefactors, grateful patients and their families, and the Quad City community. The projected costs for this project are $250,000. The Genesis Foundation’s Adler Fund will match donations at 100% up to $125,000. Construction will begin in the fall of 2022.
