Obi-Datti’s media office has refuted claims that Labor Party presidential candidate Peter Obi is currently on a fundraising tour in the United States and Europe.
This followed demands by a support group of All Progressives Congress candidates Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima for the Independent National Electoral Commission to sanction the LP for violating electoral laws externally funding elections.
In a statement on Sunday, Obi-Datti’s media office called the allegation “sorry and baseless”, adding that Obi’s trip was to “raise awareness and take Nigerians abroad to his next country’s reconstruction program is open and transparent and not fundraising.”
He chastised the ruling party for supposedly fabricating and imagining things he (the APC) wanted INEC to act on against the “unstructured candidates and social media” which had now become the “buster”. head” of the ruling party.
The statement read: “The attention of Obi-Datti’s media office has been drawn to the sorry and baseless allegation by a Tinubu-Shettima support group calling on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to disqualify the presidential candidate of the Labor Party (LP). , Mr. Peter Obi and his running mate, Ahmed Baba Datti, from the 2023 presidential election for allegedly violating a section of the electoral law on election financing.
“Suddenly the unstructured candidates and social media are now the puzzle of the ruling party that they now had to fabricate and imagine things that they want the Electoral Commission to act on.
“Obi’s successful overseas trip, which is apparently aimed at raising awareness and bringing Nigerians on board his upcoming program to rebuild the country, is open and transparent and not a fundraiser. But we know why it is inconvenient (for) some people, as they cannot meet Diaspora Nigerians knowing that they contributed to their leaving the country in the first place.
“We have always said for the umpteenth time that their own understanding of the structure is the abundance of funds looted from their kitty which they plan to deploy on hungry Nigerian voters during the elections to sway their votes.
“They know no one has the kind of stolen funds they have and are always uncomfortable with anything that suggests their opponents might match them. Obi didn’t go begging for money but to sell himself and his mission to off-shore Nigerians who are key players in the Nigerian project.
“Since June 2022 when they rolled out some of their loot to get their party ticket, the national currency has crashed and is still struggling to breathe. And ever since then, they’ve been mopping up foreign currency ahead of the election to buy voters.
“So the media office needs to educate them that Obi and his running mate are a knowledgeable duo who know the law and operate within it and who have become who they are financially, politically and socially by doing legitimate businesses. They have no bullion or questionable wealth history and are ready and willing to be examined.
“Just as Obi and Datti’s background and background are verifiable, their sources of income before and now are unambiguous and verifiable.
“Obi and Datti got to where they are today in this 2023 journey by not giving ‘shishi’ to anyone as they invest in suffering Nigerians impoverished by greedy rulers of the past who diverted public funds to their private and family pockets.
“We understand their predicament, lack of constituent content, lack of what to market, using the many opportunities offered by campaigning and resorting to the blind search for reasons to disqualify the people’s only hope for a new Nigeria and better.
“Suddenly, they begin to realize that the social media giant, the candidates without structure and without consequence, are in the hearts of people convinced by their pragmatic messages. In frustration and envy, they are now desperately searching for every twisted way to stop them.
“Finally, we like to advise everyone of this school of thought that the old order that has held us together as a nation will always function, to read the writing on the wall and know that their time is up and Nigerians are ready and determined to take back their country now.
