Peterborough-based Sue Ryder fundraising shop and cafe are to go under the hammer at a Brown & Co auction

A shop and cafe in Peterborough operated under a lease as a fundraising business by charity Sue Ryder is to be sold by its owner at auction.

The charity, which sells goods including furniture, books and clothing donated by the public, has rented premises in Central Square, Whittlesey Road, for the past eight years.

Today, the owner of the building, whose name has not been released, must sell the premises, which include a large parking lot, as an investment opportunity.

A shop and cafe in Whittlesey Road, Peterborough, which is operated on lease by the Sue Ryder charity, is to be auctioned off as an investment opportunity.

Auctioneers Brown & Co say the Sue Ryder charity is not leaving the premises and just five months ago they signed a six-year lease extension at rent, excluding business rates, fees service charge and VAT, £27,000 per annum.

They say the rent will rise to £28,500 in February 2025 when Sue Ryder is given the opportunity to end the lease.

The premises, which were previously leased to the Coop, will be auctioned in an online sale by Brown & Co on June 22.

Auctions will open June 21 at 11 a.m.

Sue Ryder operates around 10 fundraising shops across Peterborough, including a vintage and retro shop on Bridge Street.

They will offer charity runners the chance to run the half marathon on October 16 and raise money for the palliative, neurological and bereavement care support charity.

Sue Ryder has been contacted for an auction response.
